What is that on our Lake ?

Over the past few years, we have observed an increase in various types of algae in the water at Lake Ontelaunee. Last year, a strain we were unfamiliar with caused operational issues that nearly disabled our filtration plant. Since then, RAWA has taken a proactive approach to monitor and treat algae to prevent future problems and has conducted extensive research on algae growth prevention. Algae problems do not resolve themselves naturally.

In recent years, we have also been experiencing increased drought conditions, which make controlling algae even more challenging. To address this issue, we have enhanced our monitoring efforts and purchased a microscope capable of identifying many forms of algae and recording our tests. Our highly skilled lab staff have been trained on this new equipment, and we have increased testing and monitoring tenfold. This enables us to anticipate and prevent potential issues before they become serious.

After careful consideration and consultation with industry professionals, we decided to install several next-generation, solar-powered, ultrasonic floating algae remediation solutions in addition to our lab testing and monitoring. Ultrasound technology is gentle and not harmful to other plants or aquatic life and helps protect drinking water utilities from harmful algae infestations and their impact on operations.
